A Clean, Consistent Finish for Stainless Steel and Metal Fabrications

FS Fabrication provides professional bead blasting for fabricated components, machinery, equipment and metalwork requiring a clean, uniform surface finish.

Using fine blasting media, the process treats the surface of the material to create an even, non-directional matt or satin appearance. It can reduce visible fabrication marks, discolouration and minor surface inconsistencies, leaving the finished component with a professional and consistent appearance.

Whether bead blasting is required as the final finish or as part of a larger fabrication project, our team can assess the component, its intended application and the finish required before recommending a suitable approach.

What Is Bead Blasting?

Bead blasting is a controlled surface-finishing process in which fine spherical media is propelled against a metal surface using compressed air.

Unlike more aggressive blasting methods intended primarily for heavy coating or corrosion removal, bead blasting is commonly selected when the objective is a smoother and more refined finish.

The process creates a uniform texture across the treated surface without producing the directional grain associated with mechanical polishing. The result is a clean, low-reflective finish that works particularly well on stainless steel fabrications, machine components, panels, guards, housings and process equipment.

The Benefits of Bead Blasting

A Uniform Matt or Satin Finish

Bead blasting creates an even, non-directional appearance across fabricated parts. This can help different areas of a welded or assembled component look consistent once manufacturing is complete.

Reduced Visibility of Fabrication Marks

Welding, forming, handling and machining can leave variations in the appearance of a metal surface. Bead blasting can reduce the visibility of light marks and surface inconsistencies, producing a more coherent final finish.

Low-Reflective Appearance

The process removes the highly reflective appearance associated with bright or polished metal. This makes it suitable for machinery, architectural metalwork and industrial equipment where a softer matt finish is preferred.

Treatment of Complex Shapes

Blasting media can reach corners, curves, welded areas and irregular forms that may be difficult to finish consistently using mechanical polishing alone.

Surface Cleaning and Preparation

Depending on the condition of the component and the media selected, bead blasting can remove light oxidation, discolouration and surface contamination. It may also be used as one stage within a wider finishing or coating process.

A Professional Finish for Fabricated Equipment

For machinery and equipment manufacturers, appearance matters alongside performance. A consistent blasted finish can give completed fabrications a clean, engineered appearance before they are installed or delivered to the customer.

Bead Blasting for Stainless Steel Fabrications

Bead blasting is particularly suited to stainless steel components where a uniform matt or satin appearance is required.

It may be used on:

• Stainless steel machinery and process equipment
• Vibrating feeders, screens and conveyors
• Spiral elevators and material-handling systems
• Machine frames and support structures
• Guards, covers, panels and enclosures
• Hoppers, chutes and discharge systems
• Tanks, trays and fabricated vessels
• Architectural stainless steel components
• Replacement and refurbished machine parts

The correct media and process must be selected carefully when working with stainless steel. Carbon-steel contamination can affect the finished surface, so each job should be assessed according to the material grade, existing condition and operating environment.

Where equipment will be used in a hygienic, food-processing, pharmaceutical or corrosive environment, additional finishing treatments may also need to be specified. These can include pickling, passivation or electropolishing, depending on the application and required standard.

Supporting New Fabrication and Refurbishment Projects

Our bead blasting service can support both newly manufactured fabrications and existing components requiring refurbishment.

For new projects, bead blasting can be incorporated into the manufacturing programme so that fabrication, welding, finishing and final inspection are coordinated through one supplier.

For existing equipment, the process may help restore a cleaner and more uniform appearance, subject to the condition of the material and the type of contamination, corrosion or coating present.

Before work begins, we can review:

• The material and grade
• The component dimensions
• Its current surface condition
• The required visual finish
• Its working environment
• Any hygiene or corrosion-resistance requirements
• Whether further treatment or coating will be needed

More Than a Surface-Finishing Company

FS Fabrication combines practical fabrication experience with in-house engineering knowledge.

This means we can look beyond the appearance of an individual component and consider how it fits, functions and performs within the complete machine or production system.

Our engineering and fabrication capabilities allow us to support customers with:

• Initial design discussions
• Engineering drawings
• Design-for-manufacture feedback
• Mild-steel and stainless-steel fabrication
• Welding and assembly
• Machinery modifications
• Replacement components
• Surface finishing
• Complete equipment manufacture

For customers developing bespoke equipment, this joined-up approach can reduce the need to coordinate separate designers, fabricators and finishing contractors.

Industries We Support

Our fabrication and finishing services can support customers operating in:

• Food and beverage manufacturing
• Pharmaceutical and chemical processing
• Packaging and production automation
• Recycling and waste handling
• Agriculture and animal feed
• Construction materials
